In Gent (and
many other places) the common solution to this is creating gardens through
artificial regeneration, where agricultural soils with a depleted soil seed bank
is planted, along with a few species.
The result of this becomes a space, where other plants than the desirable ones planted, do not have a high chance to grow. In other words, it results in a garden with low diversity which require a low level of maintenance. This is a problematic, but sadly a common tendency, that degrades ecosystems of which we are dependent on.
